CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE’S WORKFORCE LEVEL 2 APPRENTICESHIP

What will I study?

Entry Requirements

• Students will need a minimum Grade D in GCSE Maths and English Language. You will have an initial assessment when you come in for an interview, and this will show the level of English and maths qualifications, known as functional skills, that you will study alongside your apprenticeship.
• Rapid Improvement will work with applicants to help find a suitable employer where possible. However, we always advise anyone looking to undertake an apprenticeship to be actively seeking employment for themselves too.

What can I do next?

The Intermediate Apprenticeship is intended to provide learners with a good starting point within the sector, working under supervision (e.g. Pre-School Assistant, Nursery Assistant), however it is expected that learners will progress, either onto the Advanced Apprenticeship or onto the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce as a stand-alone qualification. This will ensure that, as practitioners, they meet the appropriate level of competency, as determined by registration and regulatory requirements.

Progression to Level 3 or an Advanced Apprenticeship will also enable them to move to higher levels of work or enable them to work unsupervised, e.g. Nursery Supervisor, Child-Minder. This pathway also provides a good opportunity for learners to move across the wider children’s workforce, should they wish to do so. This is possible due to the ‘commonality’ of much of the learning contained within the combined qualification.

There are a number of units that are shared across qualifications in related occupations (e.g. Schools support services, Care, Health, Play work).

Once you have completed your Advanced Apprenticeship you will also be able to apply to a range of Universities or take up employment as a practioner in the Early Years setting. Many students progress to University Centre at Rapid Improvement where 9 out of 10 graduates are in work or further study just six months after graduation.
